The following activities are often available in Santander, offering opportunities for students to participate in and learn about Spanish culture:
Upon arrival, take a guided tour in a private bus with other ISA students in Santander. During the first day students will learn about the most traditional and well-known places in the city. Later, discover a new perspective and enjoy spectacular views on a ferry ride through the Bay of Biscay with fellow ISA students and resident directors.
Visit the Magdalena Palace and Park, former summer palace for Spanish royalty in the early 20th century. The impressive palace is now the most emblematic building of the University of Menéndez Pelayo. Students can also enjoy a walk along the Peninsula of Magdalena, which offers impressive views of the Bay of Biscay.
Enjoy a walking tour of the neighborhoods of Santander led by your ISA resident staff. The winding streets and open plazas offer a rich atmosphere to observe the people and culture of the city. You will also notice a variety of architectural styles, including the stunning Gothic cathedral and the town hall, a common meeting place for students and locals alike.
Fish and other seafood, freshly caught in the nearby bay, are staple ingredients in Santander's delicious cuisine. After a stroll along the harbor, discover the region's delicacies on an evening tapas tour through the city.
One of the best ways to practice your Spanish and learn more about Santander is by participating in an "intercambio" (language exchange). The ISA resident staff can help you meet Spaniards interested in practicing English and helping you learn Spanish. Often meetings take place in local cafes or tapas bars, and you are sure to discover new places and customs through this experience.
