OBJECTIVES
- To gain a general understanding of Spanish art from the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries with special attention to architecture, sculpture, and painting from the renaissance and barouche periods.
- To analyze some “key works” in the Spanish artistic production of the Modern Age, concentrating on the formalist methods as well as the sociological, cultural, iconographic and semiotic methods.
- Deeply analyze the use of textual resources (monographs, magazines, reference guides, databases…) and materials in many useful formats (paper, film, virtual) to understand Spanish art.
PROGRAM
2.1 " Organization of the course
- The 30 hours of theoretical classes will be developed in accordance with the adjoining agenda.
- The 15 hours of practical classes will be developed in parallel with the technical classes, with the ability to utilize a concrete day of the week as well as temporal periods during theoretical expositions.
- The 15 hours of directed academic activities will take place during the entirety of the semester.
2.2 " Theoretical Classes
General introduction to each of the themes and commentaries on a “selection” of the principal artistic manifestations of each period (with projection in the classroom), in accordance with the following agenda:
THEME 1: The renaissance in Spain: Between tradition and modernity.
THEME 2: The arts during the reign of Felipe II (1564-1600)
THEME 3: Century XVII in Spain. Classicism and Baroque.
THEME 4: Baroque and Rococo in the 18th Century in Spain.
