OBJECTIVES
• To introduce students from abroad, and in the main students from the United States, to the geographical diversity of the European subcontinent.
• To raise in them an awareness of the key milestones involved in the process of European construction and of its present-day situation.
• To provide information concerning the policies implemented by the European Union, with specific emphasis on those of a regional character.
• To enable students to become aware of the key role of Europe within the process of globalization (world economy, globalization of transport and communications…).
METHODOLOGY
Participation in this Course implies essentially the active role of students who will be encouraged to think reflectively and to contribute to debates, following on from the exploration of the fundamental aspects of syllabus content, backed-up both audiovisually and by means of selected readings.

COMPLEMENTARY ACTIVITIES
Guided visit to the Center for European Documentation, University of Sevilla, and, whenever posible, attendance at lectures, or visits to exhibitions, linked with aspects of the syllabus content.
ASSESSMENT
Assessment and Grading, distributively speaking, will be based on the following criteria:
• Regular attendance and active participation in class sessions (20%).
• An assignment, chosen by the student, on a subject related to the Course syllabus (20%).
• Two exams, one mid-way through the semester, and the other at its close, involving questions dealing with Course content (30% in each exam).
