*NOTE: This course is only available during the intensive language study prior to the University of Sevilla semester start. Also, because this course is taught at the Menendez Pelayo International University (UIMP), students will receive a separate UIMP transcript for this course.*
COURSE OVERVIEW
This course has a double emphasis. The first focus is on active mastery of the following proficiency skills, which will be practiced in context and recycled throughout the semester:
1. description (agreement)
2. narration in the past (preterite vs. imperfect)
3. narration in the future (future tense)
4. comparisons
5. reacting (subjunctive in noun clauses)
6. hypothesizing (conditional)
The second focus is on the following grammar points which will be studied from a linguistic perspective. After forms are mastered, analysis in context and then finally active usage will be expected. These points include:
1. subjunctive in adjectival and adverbial clauses
2. the perfect tenses
3. conjecture using future and conditional
4. imperfect subjunctive
5. sequence of tenses
6. passive se and impersonal se
7. present participle vs. conjugated verb vs. infinitive
There will be daily written and oral assignments, a mid-term exercise, and a final exam.
