Overview

OBJECTIVE
To familiarize the student with the most representative events of 20th and 21st century Spanish history.

COURSE OUTLINE
I. Regenerationism and political revisionism. The crisis of 1909 and 1917. The colonial war in Morocco.

II. Primo de Rivera dictatorship. From the Alfonso monarchy to the Second Republic.

III. The Second Republic. The Constitution of 1931 and the reformist period. The radical right wing period. The elections of 1936 and the Popular Front.

IV. The Spanish Civil War 1936-1939

V. The Franco years: from autarky to development. The transformation of Spanish society.

VI. The transition to democracy. The Constitution 1978.

VII. A Spain of autonomous regions.

VIII. International relations

IX. The ideal of Europeanization. Spain in the European Union.
