OBJECTIVE
The objective of this course is to have students interact in situations that students will encounter on a daily basis. Using a communicative methodology, students will practice the four methods of communication: reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
PROGRAM
TOPIC 1--DESCRIPTIONS
Talk about family. Physically descibe a person. Talk about someones personality.
TOPIC 2--¿DO WE AGREE?
Learn how to make appointments. Make suggestions. Accept and decline invitations. Conversations and telephone messages.
TOPIC 3--¿HOW ARE YOU?
Ask someone how they are feeling and also to e able to describe how one feels to someone else. Express pain. Express personal likes and dislikes. Discuss personal habits and weekend activities. Write informal letters.
TOPIC 4--SHOPPING
Discuss what clothes people are wearing. Discuss how to ask for assistance in a store. Discuss prices. Talk about preferences. Ask for assitance in a restaurant.
TOPIC 5--MY HOME
Describe a house. Describe common household objects. Talk about personal relations and sharing living arrangements. Write a rental notice for a news paper.
TOPIC 6--NUTRITION AND DIET
Discuss diet and nutrition. Give instructions and review recipies. Demonstrate agreement and disagreement.
TOPIC 7--THE SEVENTH ART
Tools to talk about televeision and films. Talk about plans and projets, Give and ask for advice.
TOPIC 8--ADVERTISING
Analysis and creation of advertisments for the press, radio, and television. The proper language of these communication tools. Word games and slang. Debate: advertising and society.
EVALUATION
30% midterm exam
40% final exam
30% homework, class participation, and attitude
ATTENDENCE
Attendance is mandatory.
CHANGES
Level changes are allowed only through the first week of the course. Dropping the class is not possible once the second week has started.
