    To develop an understanding of how the great diversity of animals evolved.

    Learners must be able to:understand theories concerning the origin of life and the evolution of living organisms;
    recognize the manner in which animals are classified and arranged into related groups (phylogeny and taxonomy);
    describe the main characteristics, anatomical attributes and phylogenetic relationships of viruses, bacteria, protists and animals;
    explain the advancements achieved in those animal groups that have attributes such as symmetry, cephalization & nervous systems, body cavities and circulatory systems;
    identify the challenges and modifications that allowed animals to invade terrestrial habitats.
    Introductory concepts: biodiversity, taxonomy, classification. Monera.Viruses.Protista. Animalia.
