    The overall purpose of this module is to gain knowledge and understanding of the principles, methods and procedures associated with the management and organization of sport events as well as the legal considerations relating to these aspects of sport management.


    Adopt a practical approach to sports event management, by planning a mini sports event.
    Demonstrate an understanding of legislation that is applicable to sporting events.
    Demonstrate an understanding of tournaments and ne able to draw up and arrange the following types of tournaments: Single elimination, double elimination, consolation elimination, bagnall - wild, round robin and challenge tournament.
    Describe the effect and process of behaviour in organizations: power, politics, conflict and stress.
    Apply the legal rules to situations where behaviour causes issues.
    Explain and apply the concept of team development.
    Describe the five major stages of group development and the leadership style appropriate for each stage.
    Demonstrate the understanding and the ability to make use of the Communication process.
    Explain why managers are not always leaders and to identify the management levels where charismatic, transformational, transactional, and symbolic leaders work best.
    Compare theories of leadership.
    Understand the Control process and explain how controls function within the systems process.
    Explain legislation that regulates various aspects of risk in sport management.

    Event management.
    Functional management ? leading and control.
    Legal aspects to sport management.

    Evaluation criteria
    This module will be assessed during an examination in November/January. 1 x 3-hour examination, 40% class mark + 60% examination mark.
