This course is an introduction to macroeconomics, "the study of the performance of national economies." This course will introduce you to some basic concepts that will assist you in making sense of what you might read not only in the business section but in the entire newspaper. This will in turn allow you to speak sensibly about what may be occurring not only in Korean economy but in economies throughout the world. Some of the important topics that you will learn about this semester are inflation, economic growth, what causes improvements in living standards, interest rates, economic short-term fluctuations (e.g. recessions and expansions), unemployment, the growing interdependence of economies throughout the world, and what actions governments take to improve the health of their economies.
