South Korea has seen a great many changes over the past few decades. While a lot of research and attention has been placed on the country’s economic development, the role of gender has become increasingly important in the 21st Century. How Korean society deals with external influences as well as its own values concerning the identity of individuals will be pivotal to the nation’s future.
The course will examine the Korean attitudes towards gender and their relation to modern society in terms of feminism, the gender divide, birthrate and marriages, LGBT attitudes, and political legacies.
