Description: Heat is the basic science that deals with the rate of transfer of thermal energy. It has broad application area ranging from materials system to common household application. This course covers (1) the basic principles of heat transfer. (2) Will present a wealth real-world engineering examples to give students a feel for how heat transfer in applied in engineering practice (3) To develop an intuitive understanding of heat transfer by emphasizing the physics and physical arguments.
Objective: To be familiar with fundamentals of thermodynamics and heat transfer- Heat and other forms of energy, specific heats of gas, liquid and solids, energy transfer/rate. To understand general heat transfer mechanism- conduction, Fourier’s law, thermal conductivity, convection, and radiation with different problem solving. Familiar with Heat Exchanger: Analysis of heat exchanger, the effectiveness NTU method.
