    Course Objectives:

    This course is intended for students who have NO OR VERY LIMITED knowledge of the Korean language. It aims to give students an understanding of the Korean language and to help acquire a basic level of communicative competency in modern Korean. Students will learn the basics of Korean – consonants and vowels, formation of syllables and basic sentence structures. Through the practice of listening, speaking, reading and writing, students will learn how to carry out a conversation on simple topics of daily life, to comprehend simple Korean texts and to write about their own everyday life at a basic level.

    Be there. .

    Class attendance of AT LEAST 80% is required to earn a passing grade. You may not do extra assignments to "make up" for missing class. An absence will only be excused if it involves an overnight hospital stay, an official university activity, or the death of an immediate family member. Documentation is required in all such cases.

    Participate.  You will do well in this category if you:

    • complete all homework assignments.
    • try to only speak Korean in class.
    • show interest in the class and have a positive attitude.
    • are courteous to the teacher and other students.
    • stay on-task in class.
