In this course, you will experience the design process ranging from idea development, through to digital artwork and preparation for printing and production processes, and how these can be aided by computer applications. You will analyse and discuss aspects of visual design, discovering best practice in the field and exploring the processes involved in concept development for particular target audiences. You will develop skills and knowledge in how design principles, use of colour, application of typographic principles and other design elements are enabled in a computing environment. The skills and knowledge you develop will have application in visually communicating your own work as well as working with professional design practitioners in your future career.

Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:
- Navigate any graphical design software using knowledge of common interface elements.
- Develop and maintain a disciplined digital working environment, with a focus on ease of workflow, file management and file structure.
- Troubleshoot a creative project through an application of problem-solving techniques.
- Correctly employ terminology appropriate and relevant to a digital working environment.

Overview of Learning Activities
You will be actively engaged in learning that involves a range of activities such as studios, project work, lectures, tutorials, class discussion, individual and group activities. During this course you will also participate in small-scale project work to develop your applications skills within a studio environment. Your lecturer will help you tailor your projects to suit your capabilities and disciplinary focus. You will contribute to class critiques and receive verbal and/or written feedback from academic staff and your peers through a variety of consultations, presentations and tutorials. This feedback will help you track your learning against the specified learning outcomes for this course.

Assessment is based on an evaluation of how well you demonstrate newly acquired design computing skills. Assignments are:
