In this course you will study visual merchandising theories, concepts and practices to ensure you develop the skills and knowledge to create successful visual merchandising strategies and displays.
This course prepares you to manage merchandise and store presentations for specific target markets. You will develop and strengthen your capabilities to research, analyse and interpret information relevant to visual merchandising in the fashion and textile industry.
Throughout this course you will also develop your planning and design skills to complete specific visual merchandising projects, as well as further develop your teamwork and problem solving skills.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:
a) Lead and manage own work and other team members or individuals within a fashion and textiles enterprise.
b) Identify, research, analyse and manage emerging global issues and trends in the fashion and textiles industry.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
a) Describe the principles and theories that underpin the practice of visual merchandising.
b) Invetigate, analyse and interpret current merchandising concepts and practices employed by various companies and their competitors.
c) Analyse client requirements and design product promotional material and visual window displays for chosen companies and their target markets to industry standards.
d) Develop and present a detailed store manual illustrating the placement arrangement of merchandise including all relevant promotional material.
Overview of Learning Activities
You will be engaged in learning that involves a range of class activities that cover theoretical and practical components of fashion visual merchandising. You are encouraged to actively participate in class tutorials, practical demonstrations, field trips, class exercises and discussions.

Resources that will assist you with your learning will include notes, reference lists, library resources, computer laboratory and relevant software.
Overview of Assessment
You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.
Assessment may include tests, case studies and assignments. Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
