    Course Description

    This course focuses on key contemporary issues facing international business. A broad spectrum of these issues includes economic, political, environmental and technological issues. You will learn and analyse how these issues affect the trend of global business, the operation of international business enterprises and their business structures, strategies and processes. This course also includes the use of techniques for identifying significant issues, extrapolating probable outcomes, and developing strategic responses.

    This course includes a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/or community is integral to your experience.


    Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

    On successful completion of this course you will be able to:

    • Critically analyse key issues and challenges in international business to inform best practice.
    • Evaluate how key issues and challenges affect the evolution of international business and the operation of enterprises for strategic responses.
    • Critically analyse and evaluate the role of international business in shaping the world economy for a comprehensive understanding of concerns from different stakeholders.
    • Address practical international business issues in an informed and convincing way by applying theories and research procedures.
    • Work effectively individually and collaboratively to communicate ideas and strategies to solve international business problems.


    Overview of Learning Activities

    In this course you will be encouraged to be an active learner. Your learning will be supported through various in-class and online activities comprising individual and group work. These may include quizzes; assignments; prescribed readings; sourcing, researching and analysing specific information; solving problems; conducting presentations; producing written work and collaborating with peers on set tasks or projects.


    Overview of Learning Resources

    Various learning resources are available online through myRMIT /Blackboard. In addition to topic notes; assessment details and a study schedule you may also be provided with links to relevant online information; readings; audio and video clips and communication tools to facilitate collaboration with your peers and to share information.

    The assessment tasks, their weighting and the course learning outcomes to which they are aligned are as follows:

    Assessment Task 1: 20%

    Assessment Task 2: 40%

    Final Examination: 40% 
    Linked CLOs: 1, 3, 4

    Feedback will be provided throughout the semester in class and/or in online forums through individual and group feedback on practical exercises and by individual consultation.
