    Course Description

    Planning plays an essential part in merchandising planning for the fashion and textile industry.

    This course introduces you to the theories, concepts and practice of allocating fashion or textile merchandise to appropriate retail outlets or clients. Through investigating and analysing collected retail data, you will design and develop retail strategies for fashion stores and enterprises, and contribute to corporate financial planning. You will then apply the skills and knowledge to develop your capabilities in a range of areas including investigation, analysis, planning and teamwork. 


    Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

    In this course you will develop the following program capabilities:

    a) Apply analytical decision making techniques in a fashion and textiles environment.

    b) Apply logical and critical thinking in resolving a range of management issues in a fashion and textiles context.

    c) Identify, research, analyse and manage emerging global issues and trends in the fashion and textiles industry.


    Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

    a) Investigate and analyse retail data for planning purposes.

    b) Identify and interpret key components of best practice in merchandise planning.

    c) Analyse and evaluate retail data to identify fashion trends and influences and plan strategies.

    d) Apply merchandise planning to contribute to corporate financial planning.

    e) Evaluate and apply principles of merchandising planning in a range of contexts.


    Overview of Learning Activities

    You will participate in a combination of classroom activities, including lectures, tutorials and case study discussions in order to provide you with the skills and knowledge for merchandising planning.

    Overview of Assessment

    You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.

    Assessment may include tests, case studies and assignments. Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
