OverviewThis module explores and assesses new forms of citizen participation in political decision- making that is occurring all over the world. Over recent decades, public authorities at all levels have increasingly experimented with and institutionalised modes of participatory governance that aim to increase and deepen citizen engagement. The module provides an overview of developments in democratic theory and political science that help to interpret this development in democratic practice and enables detailed engagement with and evaluation of cases from around the world. It also provides an opportunity for students to contribute to the global research project and platform Participedia.
