The aim of this module would be to provide a critical assessment of the impact of race on criminal justice policies and practice. This process will introduce students to historical and contemporary theories of race and crime as well as the ongoing criminological debates over the experiences of visible minority ethnic groups as clients of the criminal justice system and as victims of crime. It will place emphasis on black people?s encounters with the criminal justice system, with an aim to provide students with competing theoretical and empirical accounts of the relationship between race and criminal justice particularly in relation to the over-representation of black people in crime figures.

Eligibility for courses may be subject to a placement exam and/or pre-requisites.

Credits earned vary according to the policies of the students' home institutions. According to ISA policy and possible visa requirements, students must maintain full-time enrollment status, as determined by their home institutions, for the duration of the program.
