Overview
Distilled from our BSc in Accounting and Finance, this undergraduate summer module, delivered by King’s Business School, has been carefully designed for those with limited or no background in studying finance but who possess a deep passion for the topic and wish to get up to speed. Over ten days, we will guide you through some of the most important concepts in finance. To ensure you can apply what you have learned in a practical context, you will be required to work in teams to formulate and present an acquisition plan to buy a company. Each day, we'll introduce you to some of the most vital concepts in finance, from valuing a company through projecting and modelling its future value, to reviewing how your deal will be financed and structured.
The course aims to focus on an interactive, engaging, and practical approach to learning about finance. We'll use real-world case studies, simulations, and experiments to enhance your learning as you develop an acquisition plan. Our goal is that by the course's conclusion, you'll feel confident in taking your newly acquired finance knowledge into further studies and a wide range of future careers.
What will I achieve?
By the end of the module, the students will be able to demonstrate intellectual, transferable and practicable skills appropriate to a Level 4 (equivalent to a first-year undergraduate) finance module and will be able to demonstrate the following subject specific skills:
- Financial Analysis and Valuation: You will learn how to assess the current value of a company and project its future value. This involves understanding and applying key financial concepts, such as cash flow analysis, profit and loss assessments, and understanding market trends.
- Strategic Planning and Decision Making: The task of formulating and presenting an acquisition plan will equip students with skills in strategic planning. This includes identifying potential acquisition targets, analysing their suitability within wider strategic goals, and planning how to integrate them into the existing business structure.
- Teamwork and Collaboration: Recognising the value of global collaboration and benefiting from King’s global appeal, this part of the module enhances your skills in working within international teams. Through hands-on group activities, you'll experience the nuances of cross-cultural interactions, adapt to diverse communication approaches, and address potential challenges arising from cultural variances. As a result, you'll fortify your global mindset, crucial for thriving in today's interconnected finance world
