    The course will introduce you to the key developments in English prose fiction in the eighteenth century, culminating in a close study of one of England’s most celebrated novelists: Jane Austen. We will study the genres of the picaresque, sentimental and gothic novels to understand the literary framework which shaped Austen’s distinctive literary style.
