  • Overview

    OBJECTIVES:
    1st semester
    - To study the logical aspects of discourse in written texts.
    - To learn how to summarize and comment a text
    - To build an argumentative text (comment and essay)

    2nd semester
    - To spot the different argumentative types of speech
    - Progressive work on essays: discuss, introduce, conclude

    PROGRAM:
    Methodology of the textual/lexical analysis
    - Help with the writing: textual grammar
    - Rhetorical style of a word, sentence or paragraph
    - Choice of authentic texts: excerpts of contemporary sociological excerpts
    - Contemporary problematic

    ACTVITIES
    (IN CLASS)
    - Group work in order to analyze and spot the markers of argumentation
    - An oral presentation to do on the textual analysis of a text
    (AT HOME)
    - Personal work on weekly writing:
    - 1st semester: Summaries, commentaries, rewriting exercises
    - 2nd semester: Summaries, commentaries, essays

    GRADING:
    - Weekly work (Summaries, commentaries, rewriting exercises, essays): 60%
    - Class participation: intellectual investment and attendance: 10%
    - Oral presentation on a text analysis: 30%
