  • Overview

    European Union institutions, policies, and decision-making processes. Overview of EU functions, focusing on economic and political integration and their implications for the European and the global business environment.

    Progressive economic integration in the EU influences the business environment in the common European space. The impact of European integration on business is so pervasive that no business activity in the EU member-states remains unaffected by the functioning of the single market. By means of a thorough overview of the EU institutions and policies, this course equips students with the knowledge necessary to recognize the opportunities and limitations with regard to conducting business in the European Union.

    As a result of taking this course, the student should be able to:
    1. Identify the major treaties and principles that have shaped the European integration process.
    2. Identify the key actors of the EU’s institutional structure and discuss their role in the decision-making process in the EU.
    3. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the key common EU policies, including their objectives and way of implementation.
    4. Discuss the implications of the EU economic integration process for conducting business in the EU.

    In congruence with the learning and teaching strategy of the college, the following tools are used:
    - Classes consist of lectures, discussions, small in-class projects and specialized video presentations. Throughout the lectures students develop knowledge and understanding related to the subject content. Discussions and group in-class small projects reinforce students’ cognitive and key transferrable skills.
    - Office Hours: Students are encouraged to make full use of the office hours of their instructor in order to consult and discuss issues related to the course's content.
    - Use of blackboard site, where instructors post lecture notes, assignments instructions, timely announcements, as well as additional resources.
