Overview of broadcasting operations, formats, and methods. The basic principles of producing television programs. Development of concept proposals, rundowns and organizational skills. Aspects of visualization, sequencing, and budgeting in production.
This course introduces students to production work in television. It provides an overview of the field and various broadcasting operations and production situations through an examination of different methods, techniques, and relevant terminology.
As a result of taking this course, the student should be able to:
1. Understand the basic stages of television production and the work that each requires.
2. Develop a production concept and a formal program proposal.
3. Demonstrate understanding of the differences between the various methods of production and how they influence the production.
4. Demonstrate knowledge in pre-production organization and rundown development.
5. Identify and evaluate production problems and suggest appropriate solutions.
6. Evaluate a final production plan in accordance with the initial proposed objectives.
METHOD OF TEACHING AND LEARNING:
In congruence with the teaching and learning strategy of the college, the following tools are used:
- Class lectures, class discussions, video presentations, television program screenings.
- Office Hours: Students are encouraged to make full use of the office hours of their instructor, where they can ask questions and go over lecture material.
- Use of a Blackboard site, where instructors post lecture notes, assignment instructions, announcements, and additional resources.
