  • Overview

    Introduction to the theory of color and its applications. Color, shape, form, and their relationships. Media and tools used to explore the functions of color. The surrounding world, either natural or simulated, used as a reference and inspiration for the completion of projects.

    This course aims at establishing color as a necessary tool for the exploration of sensory, intellectual and aesthetic concepts. Students manipulate the two-dimensional field by experimenting on the endless expressive and structural possibilities through the use of color.

    As a result of taking this course, the student should be able to:
     1. Apply principles of color theory
     2. Utilize color with different materials and techniques
     3. Develop criteria of composition and color harmonies.
     4. Examine the fundamental concepts of color
     5. Formulate a language for the critical examination of projects

    - In congruence with the teaching and learning strategy of the College, the following tools are used:
    - Classes consist of lectures, demonstrations, and problem solving sessions, class critiques and discussions.
    - Studios: students are encouraged to use studio facilities for the completion and installation of their works.
    - Media labs: students use media labs for the completion of projects and portfolios
    - Gallery and Museum visits
    - Office hours: students are encouraged to make full use of the office hours of their instructor, where they can ask questions and go over lecture and reading material.
    - Blackboard site, where instructors post lecture notes, assignment instructions, timely announcements, as well as additional resources.
