  • Overview

    Data communications technologies. Computer network systems. Network convergence architectures. Connectivity and internetworking of LANs. Broadband networking. Computer networks modeling and analysis.

    The course exposes students to a wide range of concepts, from fundamentals to technical details, converged network architectures, technologies, and connectivity. Focus is placed on modern communication and networking needs, as well as modeling and analysis tools and methods. The course is intended for students following the Network Technologies pathway of the IT major.

    As a result of taking this course the student should be able to:
    1. Demonstrate knowledge of computer networks, communication and messaging systems.
    2. Assess local area networking needs and choose an appropriate wired or wireless solution.
    3. Evaluate broadband networking infrastructure needs and explore broadband and wireless technologies.
    4. Demonstrate knowledge on the basic analytical methods for evaluating performance and quality of service of a computer network.

    In congruence with the teaching and learning strategy of the college, the following tools are used:
    • Lectures, class discussions, and review of real-world cases based on specific theoretical concepts. Laboratory practical sessions.
    • Office hours: Students are encouraged to make full use of the office hours of their instructor, where they can ask questions and go over lecture material.
    • Use of the Blackboard Learning platform, where instructors post lecture notes, assignment instructions, timely announcements, as well as additional resources.
