DESCRIPTION:
The course focuses on developing knowledge and skills in the areas of investment, financing and dividend policy decisions. Risk, return and growth are the key concepts of finance to be explored.RATIONALE:
Future financial managers must possess the knowledge and the ability to manage corporate risk, evaluate long-term projects, raise and optimally allocate funds.LEARNING OUTCOMES:
As a result of taking this course, the student should be able to:
1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the role and purpose of finance in corporations.
2. Discuss different financial practices regarding capital structure and dividend policy
3. Analyse short and long-term financing corporate decisions and perform securities valuation
4. Discuss the value added and limitations of different financial strategies applied by corporationsMETHOD OF TEACHING AND LEARNING:
In congruence with the teaching and learning strategy of the college, the following tools are used:
o Class lectures, and practical problems (case studies) solved and discussed in class.
o Homework assignments: Most of these assignments require the use of advanced spreadsheet applications such as building alternative scenarios and performing sensitivity analysis.
o Office hours: students are encouraged to make full use of the office hours of their instructor.
o Use of blackboard.
