Fundamentals of 2D Forms - Drawing I

DESCRIPTION:
Traditional and contemporary concepts of drawing and visual structures. Free hand drawing and sketching, geometric and organic form, contour, shading, scales analogies, as well as computer aided projects. Use of all drawing tools to produce images with varieties of media.

RATIONALE: 
This course aims at establishing drawing as a necessary tool in the hands of all Visual Arts students who will soon be in the position to produce images. Students discover ways to arrange the basic visual elements into compositions and personal statements by forming lines, shapes, colours, and textures. Experimentations with the visual illusions and effects that can be created on paper with a variety of materials.

LEARNING OUTCOMES: 
As a result of taking this course, the student should be able to:
1. Define a visual idea from conception to final execution.
2. Relate drawing with perception and projection
3. Organize space relationships, i.e. figure and ground.
4. Construct linear relationships.
5. Experiment with the differences in tonal values and textures.
6. Formulate a language for the critical examination of projects

METHOD OF TEACHING AND LEARNING:
In congruence with the teaching and learning strategy of the college, the following tools are used:
- Classes consist of lectures, demonstrations, and problem solving sessions, class critiques and discussions.
- Studios: students are encouraged to use studio facilities for the completion and installation of their works.
- Media labs: students use media labs for the completion of projects and portfolios
- Gallery and Museum visits
- Office hours: students are encouraged to make full use of the office hours of their instructor, where they can ask questions and go over lecture and reading material.
- Blackboard site, where instructors post lecture notes, 
assignment instructions, timely announcements, as well as additional resources.
