  • Overview

    DESCRIPTION: 
    Introduction to Directing for the stage. Main principles and responsibilities. Students direct short scenes within a theatrical space.

    RATIONALE: 
    In this course students gain practical experience in directing for the stage. By practicing the realization of theatrical texts on stage students develop their ability to make artistic choices and experiment with theories, methods and skills learned.

    LEARNING OUTCOMES: 
    As a result of taking this course, the student should be able to:
    1. Analyze a theatrical text for given circumstances, initiating and scene events, character analysis, time, place and atmospheric setting.
    2. Elaborate an original interpretation of the text to stage reality.
    3. Compare the various ways a theatrical space can be used for a given text and select a fitting solution.
    4. Demonstrate director’s skills by collaborating skillfully and by managing issues successfully.

    METHOD OF TEACHING AND LEARNING: 
    In congruence with the teaching and learning strategy of the college, the following tools are used:
    • Discussions on assigned readings, lectures, directing exercises, coaching.
    • Office hours: students are encouraged to make full use of instructor’s office hours for questions, to see their exams/papers, and/or go over lecture material.
    • Use of a Blackboard site, where instructors post assignment instructions, timely announcements, as well as additional resources.
