  • Overview

    DESCRIPTION: 
    Exploration of effective diction, pronunciation and clear vocal expression, applying learned principles to the text and its aural equivalent.

    RATIONALE: 
    This course will enable students to gain a greater mastery of their voice as an instrument intended for precise diction and specific pronunciation. Sound and physical exercises will be applied to text, so that the voice will be released from the body fully and clearly while spoken correctly.

    LEARNING OUTCOMES: 
    As a result of taking this course, the student should be able to:
    1. Identify and overcome physical and vocal habits that interfere with the natural voice and diction.
    2. Apply exercises targeted at the muscles of the mouth and tongue to attain proper English pronunciation.
    3. Maximise use of vocal resonators for effective coherence and placement.
    4. Relate voice and dialect experience to text.
    5. Develop vocal flexibility to allow unhindered personal expression within the dictates of standard spoken English.

    METHOD OF TEACHING AND LEARNING: 
    In congruence with the teaching and learning strategy of the college, the following tools are used:
    - Physical and vocal exercises, oral presentations and discussions.
    - Office hours: students are encouraged to make full use of instructor’s office hours for questions, to see their exams/papers, and/or go over lecture material.
    - Use of Blackboard
