The purpose of this module is to improve students' proficiency so that they can complete complex oral and written tasks through Japanese at a high level in professional, business and social situations. Students will be able to recognise and respond appropriately to linguistic nuances and register in a range of realistic situations such as presentations, discussions, and debates on a range of social, cultural, and political issues. Students will read more advanced texts in Japanese from a range of sources including news, media and literature to respond critically and appropriately to these texts and will be enabled to present well-founded arguments and opinions on the texts in written form.
1. Express ideas clearly and accurately in writing through Japanese using complex grammatical structures and appropriate register.
2. Extract information from a variety of sources including newspapers, journals, current affairs programmes, additional internet sources, literary texts etc.
3. Demonstrate an ability to use an approriate register for a particular situation.
4. Deliver a coherent argument orally in an appropriate register and style.
5. Demonstrate an awareness of Japanese culture and significant social, economic and cultural issues and events.
