  • Overview

    This module is designed: To acquire sufficient communicative skills to function adequately during a period in Japan. -To increase proficiency in pronunciation and intonation.-To expand the language skills acquired in Japanese Language 3.- To develop information-gathering techniques.- Consolidation of 550 basic characters acquired previously.- Acquisition of additional 200 characters.- To begin acquisition of formal register language and to develop letter -writing skills. To enable students to acquire language skills that allow them to engage in academic activities in the course of their year abroad in Japan. 

    Learning Outcomes
    1. Have a sufficient range of language to describe unpredictable situations, explain the main points in an idea or problem with reasonable precision and express thoughts on abstract or cultural topics such as music and films, including a minimum of 750 kanji.
    2. Communicate with reasonable accuracy in familiar contexts; generally display good control though with noticeable mother tongue influence. Errors occur, but it is clear what he/she is trying to express.
    3. Find and understand relevant information in everyday material, such as letters, brochures and short official documents.
    4. Write straightforward, detailed descriptions on a range of familiar subjects within his/her field of interest.
    5. Communicate with some confidence on familiar routine and non-routine matters related to his/her interests and professional field. Can exchange, check and confirm information, deal with less routine situations and explain why something is a problem. Can express thoughts on more abstract, cultural topics such as films, book, music etc.
    6. Be aware of the salient politeness conventions and act appropriately.
