  • Overview

    This module aims to introduce students to some of the essential aspects of the Japanese language. Students will be introduced to a range of everyday situations requiring the use of specified linguistic skills with a particular focus on oral and aural skills. Students will be guided in the development of a range of language learning strategies and transferable skills, such as independent learning. The minimum exit level for this module is A1. 

    Learning Outcomes
    1. interact with reasonable ease in structured situations and short conversations provided that the other person helps if necessary. Can manage simple, routine exchanges without undue effort, can ask and answer questions and exchange ideas and information on familiar topics in predictable everyday situations
    2. agree and disagree with others
    3. communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information
    4. give a simple description or presentation of people, living or working conditions, daily routines, likes/dislikes, etc. as a short series of simple phrases and sentences linked into a list.
    5. have sufficient vocabulary to conduct routine, everyday transactions involving familiar situations and topics, including a minimum of 350 kanji
    6. have basic IT literacy in Japanese, including word processing, web search, and accessing language-specific resources.
