This module aims to introduce students to contemporary theories of culture, the role of language in culture and the functions of multilingualism in modern international communication.
1. Apply contemporary theories of culture to a variety of social and political phenomena
2. Produce a relevant analysis of the role of multilingualism in international communication
3. Engage with contemporary debates around issues of identity
4. Demonstrate an understanding of the specific contribution of language to the development of human cultures
