  • Overview

    This module is designed for students in Animal Science/Animal Science Equine/Animal & Crop Production/Dairy Business. The module is designed to give students an understanding of nutrition for both ruminant and monogastric farm animals. Topics dealt with include the following: structure and functioning of the digestive system, the processes of digestion and absorption plus digestive disorders; metabolism of nutrients, especially in relation to energy, protein, minerals and vitamins plus an introduction to metabolic disorders; nutrient requirements and systems of energy and protein evaluation of feeds; dry matter intake; feed additives; feed processing; major classes of feedstuffs.
