Overview
This module is an introduction to the ideas and methods of classical and modern geometry.On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to:1. perform basic calculations of distance, angle measure and area in the Euclidean plane,2. describe, with reference to appropriate examples, the difference between the synthetic and algebraic approaches to Euclidean geometry,3. state and prove some of the basic propositions of plane Euclidean geometry,4. use diagrams to aid in constructing proofs and solving problems,5. apply deductive reasoning to solve geometric problems,6. explain the classification of isometries of the Euclidean plane,7. describe the symmetries of some simple shapes such as regular polygons,8. calculate spherical distance, angle measure and area,9. compare and contrast the geometry of the plane with that of the sphere.
