OverviewThis course explores the role of international organizations in today's world. It will cover the genesis of these organizations from the Treaty of Westphalia, the League of Nations, to the creation of the United Nations. Special emphasis will be placed on the UN charter, the purpose and the structure of the UN, its membership and financing, and the role of the UN Secretary-General. Topics such as United Nations peacekeeping and human rights, economic development and cooperation, and contentious issues such as the expansion of the UN Security Council will also be discussed.
