The course examines literary, cinematic, and critical works on the experience of Italian Americans in order to investigate the many facets of their identity. The first part of the course includes readings on theories of race, ethnicity, and identity formation in the United States. The second part explores novels, films, and popular culture as evidence of the many forms of Italian-American cultural expression and their representation.
