OverviewThis course introduces students to the discipline of sociology, assuming little or no prior knowledge of the discipline and with a view to providing a basis for Sociology Level 1B, Sociology Levels 2A and 2B and Joint or Single Honours in Sociology. Drawing on a wide range of examples, it introduces students to some of the key concepts, theories and research methods sociologists use to understand the nature of contemporary societies, the relationship between the individual and society, and processes of social reproduction and change.

Credits earned vary according to the policies of the students' home institutions. According to ISA policy and possible visa requirements, students must maintain full-time enrollment status, as determined by their home institutions, for the duration of the program.
ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) credits are converted to semester credits/quarter units differently among U.S. universities. Students should confirm the conversion scale used at their home university when determining credit transfer.
