  • Overview

Complimenting other survey and thematic courses at Honours level in Scottish literature, this course is designed to enable students to spend more time focussing on the work on individual Scottish writers, some of whom might be well-known (such as Robert Louis Stevenson, Walter Scott, Ali Smith) and others of whom might still be relatively under-represented (such as Susan Ferrier, Catherine Carswell, Hamish Henderson). It asks how we are to understand such authors in the context of contemporary literary studies and how we are to analyse and interpret their cultural significance and legacy.
