Engineering students must become familiar with the use of control techniques and technologies
of industrial process automation. LabVIEW is currently a standard tool in the industry for the
design and implementation of industrial control, especially in the areas of control,
instrumentation and electronics. This course focuses on providing students with sufficient
theoretical, practical, and technological knowledge to address the planning and proposal of
industrial control solutions. The course also uses LabVIEW as a design and implementation tool
deepening in the development of industrial control applications. These are topics usually related
to most of the working environments for engineers in industry.
- Learn the LabVIEW programming techniques
- Develop a real professional project in the LabVIEW programming environment.
- Analyze, design, and develop control applications in the LabVIEW programming
PART 1: Introduction
Introduction to instrumentation and control systems. Presentation of the National Instruments
tools as a standar in industry.
Automotive industry applications examples. Introduction to LabVIEW Programming
PART 2: LabVIEW Programming techniques
1. LabVIEW Basics
2. Data structures in LabVIEW
3. Modular application development
4. Hardware for data acquisition
5. Common design patterns in LabVIEW
6. User Interface Control
7. Advance techniques for file management
8. Control using LabVIEW
9. Industrial communications using LabVIEW
PART 3: Development of Control System applications in the LabVIEW Environment.
Activities inside the classroom:
* Classes for contextualizing the control architectures and the different measuring and control
technologies presented in the automotive control systems.
* Exposition classes in which the various technological elements presented in an industrial plant
are described, and their properties, advantages, limitations and practical operation are analyzed
* Laboratory practices are developed in the National Instruments Laboratory, where LabVIEW
is used to analyze, design, and implement industrial control applications. All the control
strategies explained in exposition classes are implemented in a practical manner in the
Activities outside the classroom
* Personal study of the material compiled during the activities carried out in class and solution
of the different work proposed.
* Fulfillment of the different tasks proposed (exercises, problems, cases and questions) that will
be submitted by means of the learning platform (Moodle), assessed by the professor, and
returned back to the student.
* Final Examination (40%)

Credits earned vary according to the policies of the students' home institutions. According to ISA policy and possible visa requirements, students must maintain full-time enrollment status, as determined by their home institutions, for the duration of the program.
