  • Overview

    The objective of this subject is to acquire a basic understanding of the role of managers and organizations in processes of constant development and interaction with their environment. The subject will help pupils in understanding the role that managers play in organisations and the essence of their job: planning, organizing, leading and controlling.
    Furthermore, the course aims to help potential managers to think systematically and to behave ethically. The teaching environment is designed to make student participation and discussion easier. To achieve this mission, we have the following objectives:
    - To justify the need for management study
    - To outline the following concepts: culture, ethics, social responsibility, etc; in order to show how they can affect the work of a manager
    - To analyze the essence of the manager?s job: planning, organizing, leading and controlling.
    - To comment on the evolution of motivation and leadership theories
    - To show basic notions on Strategic Management: concept, process, strategic levels, etc.

    The students? knowledge evaluation will be assessed through exams, tests, case applications, individual reports and participation in class.

    Final exam
    At the end of the term a global exam will be taken by all the students in order to pass the subject. This exam will be worth 25% of the final grade in the subject.

    At the end of each unit a test will be taken by all the students. These tests will be worth
    25% of the student's final grade.

    Individual Report
    1. The professor will propose some topics related to the subject
    2. Presenting the report is compulsory for all the students
    3. These works will represent 25% of the final grade.
    4. There is no allowance for late submissions of course work. Any work handed in after the date set by the lecturers will receive a mark of 0.

    Case studies and participation in class
    1. The professor will ask the students to analyse some case studies over the term
    2. These case studies are compulsory and individual
    3. The cases will be done for homework
    4. At the professor?s request, they will be handed in during class.
    5. The cases, attendance and participation in class will be worth 25% of the final grade.
    Class Attendance is mandatory: students will be allowed to have 3 unjustified absences. Half a point will be deducted from your final grade (Spanish) for any unjustified absence beyond 3.
