    Cultura para el Aprendizaje del Español [CUL/SPA 325S] 
     
    LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION:
    Este curso será impartido en español, destinado para estudiantes con un nivel avanzado, preferiblemente.
     
    CONTACT HOURS:
    El curso tiene un total de 45 horas lectivas, repartidas en 30 sesiones de 90 minutos.
     
    GENERAL COURSE DESCRIPTION AND COURSE OBJECTIVES:
    This course aims to improve reading, listening and, especially, speaking and writing skills through a Hispanic cultural approach. It is focused on both linguistic and cultural learning to achieve a proper communication and interaction with native people. Hence, it is designed to develop the intercultural competence in order to facilitate the understanding and the respect of different ways of living and thinking. Throughout the semester, we will explore the politics, social structures, traditions, artistic movements and historic periods of Latin America and, in particular, of Peru.
     
    COURSE OBJECTIVES:
    - Provide a general view of both Latin American and Spanish cultures: history, customs, traditions and daily life issues.
    - Understand and be able to identify the major events of the broad outline of Latin-American history.
    - Identify and explain the major components of Latin-American culture.
    - Provide an overview of the Peruvian culture, including historic, economic, political and traditional aspects.
    - Develop an understanding of Hispanic culture and an awareness and sensitivity to foreign cultures.
    - Be able to produce an original and critical essay on one of the topics discussed in class.
     
    COURSE PRE-REQUISITES:
    Se require que el estudiante domine el nivel avanzado B2, según el MCER (Marco Común Europeo de Referencia para las Lenguas)

    REQUIRED READINGS AND TEXTS:
    No es necesario comprar un libro para esta clase. El material de lectura será entregado a los estudiantes a lo largo del curso.
