Course Selection

The UDEP offers students a select list of courses in English with local students, as well as a list of recommended courses for international students taught in Spanish with local students.  In addition,  ISA students who are at a high advanced language level (5+ semesters of Spanish Language) are eligible to take any of the required or elective courses taught in Spanish from the School of Business Administration, as long as they meet any pre-requisites for the class.

ISA students can choose between 12 and 16 credits during a semester program, keeping in mind that most courses are 4-credits.

The Intermediate and Advanced Spanish language courses are designed for ISA students only and will open based on enrollment.  These language courses are worth 3 credits each.

ISA students may combine courses taught in English and Spanish with locals, as well as a Spanish language class from the list below.

Course availability and contact hours are subject to change.

Requests for sample syllabi can be made to the Peru Program Manager.

Language Requirement

Students who choose courses taught in Spanish with locals must have completed or tested out of a minimum of five semesters (7-8 quarters) of college-level Spanish.

Course Credit

According to ISA policy, students must maintain full-time enrollment status, as determined by their home institutions, for the duration of the program.

Credit transfer is ultimately determined by the student’s home university.

Transcripts

The transcript from the UDEP will reflect UDEP credits for each course. ISA recommends 1 UDEP credit = 1 U.S. semester credit / 1.5 quarter units. Please be in touch with your home university regarding credit transfer for this program.

Funding Your ISA Program

Wondering how you’ll fund your program? ISA’s got you covered! If you receive financial aid for your home university, you will likely be able to use those funds for study abroad too.  The first step is usually speaking with your home university. Check out the steps for using financial aid here.

Need to know how much to budget for a term abroad? Take a look at the additional expenses you might expect, depending on your program.

As an ISA participant, you have the opportunity to apply for scholarships and grants that can be applied directly to assist with your study abroad programs. Housing

Living in ISA housing will give you the opportunity to experience aspects of the Peruvian lifestyle that are inaccessible to the average visitor to Peru. With an open-mind and flexibility, the experience of living in another culture can be highly rewarding.

We strive to match your housing preferences with our available accommodations, however, housing preference requests cannot be guaranteed.

Homestay

Host families are best if you are seeking full linguistic and cultural immersion during your time abroad. Each host family has been carefully selected by ISA's resident staff in order to best accommodate your needs and to ensure a comfortable living situation. Homestays will provide two meals daily and laundry service once a week. While students typically have their own room and share a homestay with another ISA student, you might share a room with another ISA student of the same gender.

Pensión

While similar to a homestay, pensiones are larger homes that provide housing to multiple students. This option includes two meals per day/seven days per week (excluding excursion days) and laundry service at least once per week. You will also be expected to coordinate meals with the meal schedule of the pensión. This is a great option for students who are more independent and would like to live with a larger number of students in a homestay setting.

Student Residence

Residencias are occupied by international students. At the residencia, you may or may not have your own bedroom and you will share bathrooms and common living areas. Residencias do not include meals, but you will have access to the kitchen and storage area at the residencia. All residencias include wi-fi and some include a computer lab.

Independent Housing

You may elect to secure housing independently. If you select this option, you will receive a discount equal to the housing portion of the program price.
