GLOBAL HEALTH, PUBLIC HEALTH
The course covers theoretical and practical aspects of global health, from the perspective of the Peruvian reality. The topics covered in this course include basic concepts in global health, health system in Peru, problems and opportunities in public health, health policies, development and evaluation of global health projects.
At the end of the course the student will be able to:
- Know the basic concepts of Global Health.
- Know basic aspects about the health system in Peru.
- To know the experiences that have been carried out at the level of Global Health projects.
- Know basic aspects about management and evaluation of public policies.
- Learn about how to conduct surveys using mobile devices.
Knowing research designs for evaluation of global health interventions.
Module 1: Introduction to global health and health systems in Peru
Basic concepts in global health.
Basic aspects about the health system in Peru.
Module 2: Health status in Peru and its impact on global health
Health situation of vulnerable groups in Peru
Environmental health and urban risk
Module 3: Tools in the development of a global health project

Presentation of proposals
The contents will be addressed through various strategies:
Readings. The participant should review the recommended reference readings for the course
Conferences and critical discussions. The contents will be addressed through presentations by teachers with critical discussions of the topics presented by the participants.
Presentation of group works. The students will have to carry out a group work in which they will present a proposal to one of the selected problems.
Field visits. Field visits will be conducted to provide experiences to concretize the knowledge of the theoretical classes.
The evaluation of the students will be based on:
Oral presentation (Pr): Represents 50% of the final grade. It will be done based on the presentation of the final proposal.
Class discussion (Dc): Represents 40% of the final grade.
Assistance (As): Represents 10% of the final grade
Final average = 0.50 Pr + 0.40 Dc + 0.10 Ace
The final grade will be reported with 2 decimals and the passing grade of the course is 11.00 (note: A final average less than or equal to 10.99 is considered disapproved)
For group work groups of 2-3 students will be formed. Each group must present a project proposal in global health according to one of the problems treated in class:

The attendance is obligatory for all the activities of the course. Unexcused absence of 30% or more of the scheduled academic activities, tardiness of more than 50% of them, disables the participant to present the final work of the course and disapprove of the course with a grade of zero (05) without the right to any final correction. The faults and delays will be sanctioned with the decrease of the base note (20). The penalty for an unexcused absence will be 2 points and 1 point for delay or excused absences.

11.00 to 12.99 D
less than 11.00 E or Fail
Any participant who has failed the course must request a postponement exam, which must be given within a period of no less than one calendar week after the end of the course. The exam will be approved with the minimum passing grade (11). Participants who disapprove the postponement exam will disapprove the course and will not be able to receive the certificate of having taken the course.
When the participant has satisfactorily approved the activities according to the established requirements, a certificate of studies will be delivered, recording in the document the grade obtained (qualitative and / or quantitative)
Field visits have historically included visits to the following places: Chosica to observe impact of El Nino phenomenon, National Museum of Archaeology, Anthropology and History of Peru (MNAAH), Armadillo project in San Juan de Miraflores, Hospital Cayetano Heredia, Manchay, primary care center and street market.

Courses and course hours of instruction are subject to change.
Credits earned vary according to the policies of the students' home institutions. According to ISA policy and possible visa requirements, students must maintain full-time enrollment status, as determined by their home institutions, for the duration of the program.
