  • Overview

    This unit will address the knowledge, skills and challenges of assisting organisations in adopting cloud computing and transforming business using new cloud orchestration models. It will cover different aspects of developing a detailed digital strategy for business in the cloud, including: cloud computing concepts and principles and developing technical cloud architecture; developing a business architecture including business analysis, business case analysis and change management; and understanding legal and regulatory policy that governs the use of cloud services. Through the knowledge, skills and assessments of the unit, students will develop a sound management acumen for undertaking business,  and technical roles related to cloud adoption and practice.     Learning Outcomes
    On the successful completion of the content in this unit, students should be able to: 

    1. Understand and explain the key concepts, principles and models of Cloud Computing, and have an appreciation of exemplar Cloud solutions in the market.
    2. Explain the role of IT (and the Cloud specifically) services in formulating the strategic function of an organization: digital strategy.
    3. Understand and apply business case analysis and cloud solution analysis in determining whether a business should make a shift to the cloud.
    4. Understand and explain legal and regulatory considerations of doing business in the cloud.
    5. Apply concepts from the unit in analyzing case studies in cloud adoption.
    6. Understand and explain project and change management principles.


    The unit will deliver a broad range of content from both IT and business perspectives:

    1. Basic overview of cloud computing, key trends and adoption patterns, cloud vendors, and business impacts.
    2. Cloud concepts: technical concepts, business concepts, managerial concepts.
    3. Cloud business models & digital strategy.
    4. Cloud policy & regulation.
    5. Building the business case for cloud: business analysis, consultancy, and project Management concepts.
    6. Delivering cloud to the organisation: project management, service lifecycle, and organisational behaviour concepts.
