This subject is for students who have not studied Japanese before and is designed to introduce the Japanese language to assist students to develop the language and learning skills necessary to participate in subsequent Japanese language subjects.Learning Objectives1. Students master the basic Japanese grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation and show understanding of linguistic and cultural differences between Japanese and their own.
2. Students critically evaluate, reflect on, integrate and apply semantic and syntactic knowledge of the Japanese language.
3. Students communicate in Japanese using the four basic skills (speaking, reading, listening and writing) and can word process hiragana and katakana scripts

Eligibility for courses may be subject to a placement exam and/or pre-requisites.
Credits earned vary according to the policies of the students' home institutions. According to ISA policy and possible visa requirements, students must maintain full-time enrollment status, as determined by their home institutions, for the duration of the program.
