Overview
Introduction
The aim of this subject is to prepare students to effectively use, manage and participate in the development of IT applications in support of common business processes. It focuses on the interconnections between IT and business, and aims to produce students capable of systems thinking. Effective use of information and technology is a foundation of modern successful businesses. This subject will provide students with a broad understanding of the role played by information systems (IS) and information and communication technology (ICT) in business activities. Students will cover a range of topics including how information systems can be used to establish competitive advantage, the range of information systems in businesses, e-business and e-commerce, building information systems, IT infrastructure and security issues. All business students need an understanding of how information systems will influence their careers. The AACSB requirements state that for accreditation the business degree will include learning experiences in such management-specific knowledge and skills areas as Information technologies as they influence the structure and processes of organisations and economies, and as they influence the roles and techniques of management. This subject will meet that need.Learning Objectives1. Students will understand and communicate the importance of ICT in organisations and their business careers.
