OverviewA broad-ranging, chronologically-arranged introduction to Chinese civilisation from prehistory to recent times. Readings will include representative philosophical, literary and religious works in English translation. Social science perspectives will be introduced through lectures/tutorial readings on social history, kinship structure, modern change, etc. This unit of study will provide a foundation for more advanced work in Chinese studies.

Credits earned vary according to the policies of the students' home institutions. According to ISA policy and possible visa requirements, students must maintain full-time enrollment status, as determined by their home institutions, for the duration of the program.
