OverviewThe unit outlines the nature of public policy - dealing with such matters as definitions of policy and approaches to analysing public policy; Examines the main building blocks of the policy process: actors, institutions, and policy instruments; Explores key stages of the public policy process: notably problem definition, agenda setting, policy formation, decision making, implementation and evaluation. Examples are drawn from Australia and a range of countries throughout the world; Addresses policy-making in extreme, 'crisis' situations.

Credits earned vary according to the policies of the students' home institutions. According to ISA policy and possible visa requirements, students must maintain full-time enrollment status, as determined by their home institutions, for the duration of the program.
