  • Overview

ARTS2123 is a Level 2 elective in the Theatre and Performance Studies major. Tracing the influence of popular performance genres on contemporary culture, and drawing on theories of both popular culture and everyday social performance, this course unravels the complex ways in which the popular gives rise to new social movements, alternative 'styles', resistive practices and transgressive acts. It looks at sites such as theme parks, reality TV programs, tourist cultures, live art and the digital world of Second Life to ask whether there is a role for popular culture in mobilising and representing change.
